Research Camp 2024 moments

A PhD Research Proposal Colloquium Recap

This year VHSSA Research Camp has attracted participants from different disciplines and geographical contexts. We were impressed by their endeavors to learn, their eagerness to explore new things with our instructors, and their passion for community-based research. We were proud that we created a collective space where all participants felt safe and confident to share their work and research interests.

We were also privileged to have Dr. Vinh To as our instructor. As a PhD supervisor with many years of experience in supervising PhD students, she has shown participants an insider’s perspective of how to craft a ‘good’ PhD proposal. Also, she was willing to provide us with sources of information for scholarships at her institutions. Once again, we would like to express sincere thanks for her time and dedication to community work.

Nearing the end of the colloquium, some participants mentioned that they were interested in arts-based methods i.e., photovoice and narrative metissage, and would like to employ them as key methods in their work. This is a great piece of news when Vietnamese researchers have become aware of the importance of arts-based methods in education research. To support early Vietnamese researchers, VHSSA will arrange several posts that highlight theoretical foundations as well as key articles to help them explore and understand the principles and values of those methods.

Playing an essential role in this year’s event was effortless support from the University of Management and Technology. UMT has offered us a spacious and modern classroom and onsite assistantship. We appreciate its great support for academic development.

    1. Hi Akuntansi,
The participants would interact with instructors through classroom activities, some were facilitated as seminars and workshops with opportunities for participants to discuss and communicate with peers and instructors.
Feel free to ask us any further questions.
