In the lead-up to the International Symposium on Global South 2024, Dr. Le Nguyen Hoang Giang hosted two workshops in Ho Chi Minh City in August. This marked Dr. Giang’s first time conducting in-person, onsite workshops in Vietnam.
📍 Workshop 1: Feminist Theory & Feminist Pedagogical Frames
This workshop explores the most prominent perspectives in feminist theory today, drawing from the ideas and works of influential scholars such as Audre Lorde, bell hooks, Kimberlé Crenshaw, and Roxane Gay. Topics include:
- Intersectionality
- The Male Gaze
- Celebrity Feminists and Pop Culture
- Bad Feminism
- Eco-Feminism
- Queer Feminism
Dr. Giang also delved into existing feminist pedagogical frameworks and introduced a new framework currently being developed in Canadian classrooms, which could serve as a valuable tool for educators in Vietnam.
📍 Workshop 2: Crafting a PhD Proposal & Finding a Supervisor
This workshop was designed for those seeking PhD opportunities in Vietnam or abroad in fields such as Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences, including Education, Pedagogy, Culture, Anthropology, Sociology, Arts, and Politics.
Dr. Giang shared insights on:
- Crafting a strong PhD proposal
- Selecting timely and impactful topics
- Choosing theoretical frameworks and methodologies
- Navigating the process of finding and communicating with supervisors
Additionally, Dr. Giang introduced PhD programs within their personal network to assist participants in finding suitable opportunities.
