An introduction to VHSSA

Vietnamese Humanities & Social Sciences Association (VHSSA) is a platform for knowledge sharing and research collaboration among young scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

VHSSA was founded by Giang Le in 2021 when she was a PhD candidate in Educational Studies. The purpose of this group is to connect young Vietnamese scholars passionate about research in the Humanities and Social Sciences. It aims to provide opportunities for members to learn from fellow researchers, both in terms of theoretical knowledge and research skills. Additionally, we organize seminars and workshops to support students who aspire to secure Master’s and PhD scholarships abroad within these disciplines. This initiative stems from our recognition that applying for graduate studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences differs significantly from applications in the Natural Sciences.

Currently, the group operates under two streams: Master’s and PhD.

  • The Master’s stream focuses on nurturing students pursuing Master’s degrees who wish to strengthen their research portfolios and gain experience to prepare for doctoral studies. Master’s students will receive strong support from PhD members.
  • The PhD stream connects doctoral candidates, enabling collaboration and academic exchange throughout their research journeys. We also strive to engage leading scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences to further enhance the research capacity of both Master’s and PhD members.

The group’s future activities will include a series of seminars and workshops on academic networking, research development, skills for applying to PhD programs and scholarships, and strategies for publishing in international journals. We will also organize author cafés for conversations with scholars and authors in the Humanities and Social Sciences, alongside other professional activities on a monthly basis. These activities will be held on Zoom, with details of upcoming events announced in this Facebook group.
